Underneath my car seat There's a secret hiding place Where all my coins and cash go To save from losing face. It falls out of my pockets And tumbles to the floor And lies in silent splendour As I open up the door There are crumbs and balls of paper And lots of bits of fluff I sometimes sit and wonder Whence comes this awful stuff. But from time to time it’s different I think you ought to know This is where I put my secrets The ones that make me glow There's a present from my lover A book of poetry That I can read at leisure And dream of being free. A pair of silk pyjamas And stockings made of lace A glove she dropped one Friday That I hold up to my face. There's a ticket from the movies And a note she sent my way Saying that she loved me But had to go away. For she knew that I was hopeless A sorry sight indeed Sitting in my car alone My head between my knees But this is where I feel my best With things I know will please; When love is gone and I’m all alone I will need these memories.
