Longing in California

As I gaze upon the sea
Its strength becomes a mystery
As it pounds upon the rocks
Driving thoughts toward history

And all the souls it's swallowed
Much too close, I fear I'll follow

The undulating rhythm makes me think
Of you - and all you are
You are the sea that goes on and on
So near - and yet so far

Take me in and quench the sorrow
For in your eyes the sun shines tomorrow

Rolling out briefly to crash back in
Fiery kisses envelop the beach
Purple depths of darkness linger on
You are here, yet out of reach
